Aspect of a Sulfur Mountain with Devil Bird. Festooned drapery and detailed engraved border surround this dramatic scene by G.M. Terreni (18th C. Italian ) of two natives with dogs descend from an erupting volcano. A Raven perches on floating drapery above.

From the enlarged Italian edition of Il Gazzettiere Americano; an encyclopedia of the Americas; with an eye towards appealing to contemporary commerce and trade which included 57 engraved plates of America's native mammals and birds, as well as scenes of building and manufacture, commerce (of indigo, tobacco, sugar), birds eye views of towns and city plans of the Americas and Colonies.
