A charming pair of life-sized Little Auks depicted on the Northern Atlantic Coast between 1832-33. The protective male is perched on a rocky outcropping hovering over the swimming female Auk below. The female is feeding on a crayfish.
The background for this composition, engraved by R. Havell, was inspired the mountainous Polar landscapes depicted in the Captain James Cook's Third Voyage: A Voyage to the Pacific Ocean undertaken for making Discoveries in the Northern Hemisphere. London, 1784. Fine. Item #6715
