Lemaire edited Van Houtte's periodical: Flore des Serres et des Jardins de L'Europe, Ghent from 1845 to 1854, at which time he became the chief author editor of L'Illustration Horticole. Grand and showy, this chromolithograph by P. Stroobant was printed in color from multiple stones and finished by hand.
